What sets this cathedral apart from others is the exquisite stained glass windows!  There are large and small windows throughout the church making it light and airy.  Each window is a work of art.  They don't make them like this anymore.

While this high altar has been made into an altar of repose, it is still beautiful.  If you look at it from certain angles, it still looks like a high altar.  This cathedral has gone through many renovations through the years.

National Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes in Emmitburg, MD

This shrine looks down over Mount St Mary's University and Seminary from the mountain behind the school.  St Elizabeth Ann Seton and her nuns lived here for a time beginning in 1809.

This golden statue of Our Lady can be seen on the mountain from miles away as you are approaching Emmitsburg.  It is lit up at night and is a beacon in the darkness.

Today is the feast of the Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary.  The stained glass windows in this chapel are exquisite.  Here are two that depict two of Our Lady's sorrows.
