St Mary in Norwalk, CT - Part 2

Notice the magnificent High Altar and the ornate painting throughout the church.

1930's

During the turbulent 60's, the altars were decapitated, the communion rail was removed and the walls painted to make a very plain interior.  

St Mary fared far better than most churches during a wreck-o-vation, but it is tragic nonetheless. 

1960's

The beginning of the restoration . . . lovely painting of the sanctuary, removal of the free-standing altar and restoration of the communion rail!

2011

 Glorious new reredos at the high altar and spectacular painting.

This church has undergone a few transformations since 1870 when it was built.  Tomorrow you will see it in the early 1930's, the wreck-o-vation of the 1960's and its glorious restoration in 2014!
