Cathedral Basilica of St Augustine in St Augustine, FL

St Augustine, Florida was the site of the very first Thanksgiving in what is now the United States.  It was on the Feast of Our Lady's Nativity in 1565!  This was decades before the Pilgrims landed in Massachusetts and has the "first" Thanksgiving in 1621.

The Cathedral Basilica was built in the 1790's and you can see the strong Spanish influence on the architecture and decorations of the church.

O God, Who sufferest not that any who hope in Thee should be over afflicted, but listenest kindly to their prayers:  we thank Thee for having heard our requests and granted our desires, and devoutly entreat Thee that what we have received may make us worthy to be delivered from all adversities.

Choir Loft: St Hyacinth in Chicago, IL

This basilica is stunning.  Every single view of the church from different angles is gorgeous.

It is hard to tell, but the picture in the top level is of St Cecilia playing the organ.

Choir Loft: St Peter in Richmond, VA

Since this church was the first cathedral of the Richmond diocese, each bishop's coat of arms is hung throughout the church.  You can see two of them on either side of the doorway in the picture below.

Oh, by the fire of their love, not less
in keenness than the flame;
oh, by their very helplessness,

This is a photograph of what the church once looked like.

Below is a picture of what is left.
At least they kept the beautiful reredos.

The holy souls, they suffer on,
resigned in heart and will,
